Talofa lava, my name is Antonia. The country I have chosen is Samoa because my family comes from there. Samoa is in the Pacific Ocean and it has a population of 217, 083 people who live there. The capital city is Apia which is on the island of Upolu. My family come from a village called Sataoa and it is two hours away form the city, if you take the Samoan buses. The people in the villages plant their own vegetables and taro and raise their own animals for eating. Chickens, pigs and cows. My family have a shop in our village and we have a delivery truck that comes 2-3 times a week to bring us our supplies. We sell everything from flour and rice to tinned fish and lollies. Because Samoa is a tropical island, it is very hot most of the time even when its raining it's very humid. Most people wear lavalavas or i'es in Samoa, to keep them cool. The clothes I am wearing are what I wear to a Samoan church. This is called a pe's. From 1890 to 1894 the famous author Robert Loius Stephenson lived in Samoa. He wrote the books Treasure Island and Kidnapped. Robert Louis Stephenson is buried in Samoa and they turned his home into a museum. I hope you can go and visit some day.

Ni Sa Bula Vinaka.
Fiji is an island in Melanesia, which makes me Melanesian as I am Fijian.
Fiji's islands were formed through volcanic activity that started about 150 million years ago. Fiji is made up of two main islands with over 30 smaller islands. Fiji has a tropical climate. It has lots of forest areas and a beautiful marine life.
The capital of Fiji is Suva. I love Fiji.

Good morning Room 9. Today I'm going to talk to you about the USA. USA stands for the United States of America. The United States of America is made up of 50 states. These states are represented by 50 stars on the American flag. The American flag is blue, red and white. It has nicknames like stars and stripes, Old Glory and Star spangled banner which is also the name of the national anthem. There are many tourist attractions in the U.S.A. Here are some popular ones. The White House (this is where the president lives and works), Las Vegas (where you find lots of casinos), Niagra Falls (one of the most popular attractions), Manhattan in New York (where you can find the Statue of Liberty), and the Empire State Building. Here are some facts abou tthe United States of America. The population is 312, 303, 000 people. The President is Barack Obama, he is the first African American to become president. The capital of the U.S.A is Washington DC. Their national bird is the bald eagle and their national flower is the rose. Next month, I am going to America with my family. We are going to Disneyland! I can't wait to meet my favourite characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse and go on all the rides. Thank yo for listening to my speech. Stevenson speech about Niue Island

Today was the presentation day of our speeches for topic. The children chose a country to share some information about. Here is Stevenson's.

Fakaalofa lahi atu the country that I’m going to talk about is Niue. This is a map of Niue, the capital of Niue is Alofi. Niue is an island in the Pacific Ocean. Captain James Cook was the first European man to sight Niue in 1774. He named Niue Savage Island because he thought that people were eating people because he saw blood on their mouths but it was just red banana skins called hulahula. This is a landmark called Matapa. Some people come here to go swimming, snorkling and diving. Uga is a favourite food among Niueans. When you catch it is blue, when you cook it, it turns red. Uga is good to eat with Taro. This is me getting a photo at my grandma’s 100th birthday. She was the first Niuean lady to turn 100 in my family. This is how you say ‘Happy Birthday’ in Niuean, Monuina e aho fanau.
